 About the Gallery Directors

We, Barry Bates and Janet Dufek, the ArtGalleryforCharity.com directors, began collecting art seriously in 1991 when we traded a 1962 Chevrolet Corvette for a small collection of contemporary art. Our collection today consists of more than 100 pieces including original works, prints, and sculptures. The primary focus is still contemporary art from the 1950s to the present. Recent acquisitions have included works by the three founding ArtGalleryforCharity.com artists.

We love art. We really have a passion for it. We enjoy what we buy, our choices being intuitive and emotional. We like to see and interact emotionally with our art on a daily basis. As is apparent from some of the images shown here, we are not one or two pictures per wall people. Although our approach is certainly not for everyone, we enjoy it.

As is the case with many collectors, we view ourselves simply as the current stewards of our collection. As part of that philosophy, we recently donated three Salvador Dali suites, The Devine Comedy (100 pieces); La Caprices (Goya Suite, 84 pieces), and Le De Cameron with Text (10 pieces) from our collection to the Las Vegas Art Museum. Although we loved these works, we felt they needed to be kept intact and made available to enhance the cultural opportunities for Las Vegas residents and visitors.

With this spirit of contributing in mind, we recently decided to embark on this venture as a means of fulfillment not only for our art desires and interests, but simultaneously helping artists and helping raise funds for charitable causes. As a charitable fund raising organization, ArtGalleryforCharity.com donates a portion of the proceeds from each sale in the name of the buyer to the charity of choice. Charitable proceeds vary between 10 and 90%, depending upon the event and source of the item sold. Each purchaser receives a bill of sale and letter documenting his/her contribution for tax purposes. For more details, go to "Proceeds Distribution".

ArtGalleryforCharity.com’s participating artists are not only dedicated to their profession, but also to helping others. Artists receive no special benefits for their participation in ArtGalleryforCharity.com except for the satisfaction of creating art for others to enjoy while contributing to meaningful causes. Prior to becoming a participating artist, each artist must agree to the guidelines drawn up by us in conjunction with the three founding artists. Our three founding artists have contributed in excess of $150,000.00 to charitable causes prior to becoming a part of ArtandCharity.com. They all continue to contribute to other charitable causes as well.
